Moira - 12th Night 2006

All about Moi~

I am as simple as I am complicated, you figure it out.

Time to Burn
Moira - 12th Night 2006

IT would seem that I have time to burn before the end of the year. So I have arranged to take 88 hours of PTO between now and Dec 31. My company will only allow me to carry 40 hours into 2015.

Let's see if I can get on some sewing projects. I would love to get some things finished and if I can some new gowns started for SCA. This means I need to fit my bodice again and just get working.

Anyone want to play?

The Crazy Strange of it All
Moira - 12th Night 2006

I want to be sewing again. I have ideas for a new gown, I have fabric for a whole new to me region and era of clothing. I need to work my bodice pattern and see if that fits properly as well as testing out the hidden front lacing/closure on said 16th Italian clothes. I must be able to dress myself since Duncan will be going to school for his License and classes are Tues-Sat. I also have the ambitious plans to try my hand at the "Exotic" Ottoman Turk clothes as seen through the eyes of an Italian Woman. Which given my SCA Name is very Scottish, this is kinda funny. But I love the clothes of the Italians and they suit me.

It works in my brain

Trying to work out how to set up my sewing space. There is so much to organize into an efficient space for my sewing, knitting and spinning. Working out the books and where the should all go. What is out in the living room and what is put away in my sewing room. Fabric.

But at least I want it organized for sewing. at least I want to sew again. That is a very good feeling.

I just realized how/what I need to so with my Ropa Sleeves! Now to find the friggin project pieces that I cut out forever ago.

Better Success this week
Moira - 12th Night 2006

Last night we went down to the Social Night for Barony of Three Mountains (The group south of us in Portland). A much better response. I am feeling a bit more relieved about SCA and being up here. Duncan starts Barber School next month and will be going to school Tuesday-Saturday, so my SCA is going to be Solo for the most part. I did go ahead and reserve a room for the AnTir 12th night at a hotel two miles from the site. The convention center hotel is booked, but this will be good.

Once I get my sewing room organized, I want to get started of my sewing again. I am debating on pulling the Skirt of Doom off my Green Campi and cutting out a panel and re-working it, but that part of me says to leave it and maybe finishing the Ropa or making another gown is a better option. I saw some techniques I learned on starlightmasque's LJ last year that I would like to try out and thus make solo SCA easier to get gussied up into. I know the technique is period to Henrecian tudor and I am willing to try it out on other designs for ease of dressing all by myself. But first I need to make sure my bodice pattern fits as I want it to, I anticipate that being loads of fun!

I hope to be able to invite people over for sewing days soon(ish).

Still unpacking

But I can find my way to work!

WDL and new plates for the cars is now done. So much easier to do than I thought it would be. We joined the local community center and I have found a few aqua classes I am going to try.

We did attend our first Baronial Meeting for the local group, the best I can say is.... I will give them two more chances since they struck out with the first pitch. If not, then there are enough other groups to take a look at for local activity. If that turns into a fail, then sorry Adiantum, you win (Lose?) this round.

I am ancy to get my sewing room unpacked and organized. I have committed to attending 12th night and have gone as far as to reserve a room at a nearby hotel as the Event Hotel is completely booked. I would like to get some sewing completed. Whether I wind up wearing it to the event is another matter. If anyone local(ish) to Vancouver who wants to play with fabric, let me know. I am going to have to fit my bodice pattern so I can make sure it fits properly and fabric buddies are always a fun and good plan. I may even have projects to post.

DV starts school in November and will be working Tues-Sat so my SCA will largely be solo. Hopefully I can make that work.

Last few days

Our last few days in California are here. Friday is the final packing out. DV~ gets the moving truck and trailer to haul the car to load up the truck with All The Things and then will be driving north. His plan is to drive overnight and get there Saturday morning. Since he wants to make the drive in a big push he is leaving before me. I will follow Saturday with the dogs. I wanted to drive up during the day when things are open and during the light. With two dogs this will be easier on me. Forntunately my good friend had agreed to drive up with me to keep me company. I should be on site Saturday evening.

I am taking the next week off of work to burn some PTO and to give myself a week to try to get important things unpacked and somewhat settled in.

What else to say?

When Plan B happens
Moira - 12th Night 2006

Plan A was to sell the house and buy a new house in our new town. That did not happen.

The house did not sell, so it came off the market Aug 7 and up on Craig's List as a rental that night. We held an open house on Sat Aug 9th and had 25 applicants to rent it out by the end of the day. By Weds the next week we had our tenant chosen and the lease signed and by Thursday we were driving 700 miles north to find a place to rent in our new hometown. Thankfully we found a place Friday morning and were able to treat the rest of our trip as a vacation.

Duncan retires Sept 18 after 30 years with the county. We get the keys to our new place Sept 20th and start the next phase. I have earned a promotion and am now working with a different group in the company and am transferring to the Mothership to work directly with my team.

Plan A fell apart - all the eggs were in the plan A basket. We were stressed out and depress so we went to dinner and within 30 minutes we had Plan B and a new basket of eggs.  Plan B is hopefully the better choice. We will rent for a year to give us time to decide where we would like to live. If we are going to sell our home here and then if we plan to buy or have something built.

I will like having access to my things again. Having my sewing space back will be a relief. Finding if the local SCA group is a good match for us will be intimidating, but I think we can weather that. There are 4 SCA baronies within a reasonable distance to where we will be living.

Duncan will be starting school in November, he will be studying to become a professional barber. He will take a look at the Masonic lodges there and if that is a good fit for him as well.

Plan B seemed to shape itself for us. So Plan B it is.

So Much To Say
Moira - 12th Night 2006

Yet every time I sit down to post something, I draw a blank on any ability to be remotely interesting. But to bring y'all up to speed of a sort.

We listed our home May 8th so hopefully someone will buy it soon. I cannot look for a home in Vancouver WA until we are in escrow here. I am transferring for work and for DV~ to be closer to his parents. DV~s father is in poor health and he wants to be closer to them, but not too close so a two hour drive is significantly better than the ten hour drive.

The home is mostly cleared out of anything that would indicate us living there. It is now a place that we sleep. Getting it ready was a ton of cranky making work and now it is all a matter of keeping the home clean and ready for home tours. The Pool table has been sold and that is being taken away this weekend. This will allow me to reset the living room into a new configuration, as we have an open house set for Sunday, this could work out well. At least I hope it does.

http://106pierce.com/  We are also on Zillow, Redfin and all the other usual suspects for realty.

My creative side is limited to spinning and knitting. I am pleased to report my spinning is improving and I am spinning a lovely finely spun silk these days. My goal is to spin sewing thread for hand sewing/embroidery. I did give my first attempt at spinning silk into sewing thread to my Laurel as her specialty is embroidery. I spun up a second attempt and need to get that to my other tester. But I can and do see an improvement in my spinning. Tussah Silk is a big bang for the buck when spinning for thread.

I honestly do not know what else you might want to hear about.
